the last two days have been very strange.
yesterday, i had two major tests and didn't seem to have a free moment until late last night, when christopher and i decided that we should crash the circle jerks show.
walking back onto campus after the most punk hour of my life, knowing that there was nothing left, was strange.
now, i'm sitting in an empty room, looking at everyone scrambling to get out of here.
am i going to miss it?
i really don't know, but i assume i will.
i spent so much time here.
i was here pretty much straight through both major breaks.
i'm headed towards pretty uncertain territory, considering almost everyone i know will be gone (in some form) next year.
i'm halfway done and i'm basically starting over.
all the things that i've barely looked at from my apartment are all sitting right in front of me, packed and ready to go home.
it's seriously freaking me out.
i feel like this year ended so abruptly; i feel like i still have so much to do.
the momentum of this year is finally catching up to me.
it seems like everyone has some kind of plan, some idea of where they're going.
i'm still sitting here, waiting to move out.

in short, i don't know what i'm going to be doing for the next four months.
i'll be going to see a lot of fun people and trying to have fun in general.

losing sleep

Something is gravely wrong. Whenever I hear the d#/open E dissonance of the lead riff of "Where is My Mind?" I think of my current situation. Sometimes, it happens in the other direction (I think of my current situation, then I think of the lead riff). I haven't gotten much sleep in the last few weeks and it's really getting to me. I've actually been presented with the right situations, which hasn't happened in a long time, and I think it's starting to scare me. I guess I'm subconsciously trying to sabotage myself.

the end of the year is upon us.
i liked a few eps this year.
here they are, along with a sample track.
i will be playing a song from each ep on the next adventures of chris and chris show.

5. cold war kids - up in rags/with our wallets full.
i realize that these eps went on to form most of what the full length is, but i can't even listen to it.
the eps were pretty amazing at the time they came out; i mean they were revolutionary.
though they're a bit too big for my tastes, i still love these guys.
"hang me out to dry."
related: cold war fiasco=cold war kids vs. lupe fiasco vs. lily allen. it's risiculous.

4. birdmonster - birdmonster ep.
this is another one of those things that was way cooler until the full length came out.
the recordings for both birdmonster and cold war kids' eps were so raw and powerful that the albums were complete letdowns.
this was a damn rock and roll ep though.
"all the holes in the walls."

3. matt and kim - to/from demo.
so, i jumped on this bandwagon too late.
i loved the demos i heard all those months ago and just couldn't find any of their stuff.
i finally got to go see them properly a few weeks ago and just got my hands on the album.
it's great, but i don't think i've had it long enough to justify putting it on my best albums list, so instead, i'm putting their demo ep on this list.
"silver tiles."

2. the little ones - sing song ep.
everywhere i turned, i heard this damn song.
no, it wasn't on scrubs or grey's anatomy. not even the oc.
just you wait.
now that they have the support of the same label as moby and chemical brothers, they've got the world in the palm of their collective, pop loving hand.
these guys are so deserving, and that's all i have to say.
they're playing tonight, so if you want to join me, call me in the afternoon!

1. lifetime - haircuts and t-shirts 7".
though this was a vinyl-only release and it contained songs that will appear on the full-length, to be released early next year, i put this at number one because of how much i anticipated it.
not only that, but damn.
it did not let me down at all.
i was worried that they were signing to decaydance, but now that i've heard this, i'm excited.
if you know anything about me, you'll know i go nuts for lifetime.
i'll be at chain reaction on feb 17, screaming my brain out.
and yes, i'm still working on getting them to play in the studio.
you'll have to stream "haircuts and t-shirts."
this is not only because i'm too lazy to ysi it, but because you need to buy the 7".
it's so DAMN cool.

i listened to these two albums tonight.

it was nice.
the album covers are strangely similar.
coincidence?

EDIT:
i just read pfork's best album list for 2k6.
several albums are notoriously missing.
asobi seksu - citrus (which they dubbed "best new music." this is probably going to be one of my top 5 this year, so i'm a bit biased.)
love is all - nine times that same song (one of the first "best new music" features this year; give the #21 spot for be your own PET's album to someone who deserves it... anyways, thurston moore doesn't need any more albums on this list.)
neko case - fox confessor brings the flood (not best new music, but always a crowd pleaser. i mean, getting that many pfork writers to stand in a line for that long is a feat in and of itself. getting them to dislike neko case is near impossible. and they liked m. ward better, apparently. surprising.)
beirut - gulag orkestar (uh, what? they champion this kid and all they give him is like a "well that song was cool #29 song of the year? how is band of horses that good?)

more beef:
this one's not so much beef as it is surprise: belle and sebastian actually making it onto the list?
i liked it, but i thought hipster judges had given up on the funk.
two metal albums on the list: mastodon and boris.
where's the hipster metal that they love so much?
isis? jesu? converge?
no. no way man. there's no REAL cred in that.
oh yeah. liars. that's cool, i guess. but i totally forgot that was this year, so it doesn't count.
and the knife? cool, but not that cool. two songs in the top 20 and the number one album?
i mean, pfork craps all over blogs and most of the albums on their top 50 are total blogwash, as chris ott would say.
don't get me wrong, i have my problems with blogs, but they put lily allen at #29. come on.
before, they say, "good, but where's the substance?"
now, it's, "nono. she's not a lady sov ripoff. really. kirsty maccoll. sort of. which is good."
and of course, the biggest conflict of the year: tapes n tapes.
come on. the album clearly came out in 2005.
just because you didn't get a piece of it when it came out doesn't mean you get to rewrite history.
i also think the decemberists album being at #41 was a bit generous, considering how pfork is "so over" death cab, but that's a battle for another day.

other than those things, the list was fairly predictable.
they couldn't put futuresex/lovesounds at #1 because a few singles can't contend with full albums.
the thermals are doing EXTREMELY well, which is great (#17, which is like #1 for bands that actually have live shows worth watching).
a lot of the other picks were very anti chris ott. not surprising at all: the pipettes, the decemberists, all the hip hop esp. clipse,

left and leaving.

my last final is in two hours.
i'm reading for another hour, doing questions and case briefs with the boys for another 45 minutes, then getting ready to take on the world.
the only reason i'm so ready for it is the fact that i know after this, i'm going into my fourth semester of college.
after that one, i'm officially halfway through college.
it's absolutely terrifying to think of it that way, so the way i look at it is as such:
at 1pm, i will have no "real" obligations for a few weeks.
i get to go back to my room and gather my books from the semester to sell back.
once that is through, i get to sit with my guitar for a bit and think about my life.
i'm going to think about the weakerthans, the lemonheads and all the things i love about my life.
i'm going to think about friends, present and absent.
i'm going to spend my time with some of my favorite people.
i'm going to do what i know i should be doing.

my hands are shaky.
it's not because i'm naturally high strung.
it's not because i've only slept for four hours total over the last few nights.
it's not because i am drinking the biggest energy drink of all time.
it's because i know what i'm working for, and for the first time in a long time, i'm really excited for everything that is.

i'd love to run into any of you over the break, so please please let me know what's going on.

338am, sunday morning.
next week is finals, which is beyond scary, but i feel like nothing bad can happen.
i've just had a good week.
i wasn't all that productive because i've been having concentration issues, but i'm okay with that.

this week, i had the best lecture of my three semesters thus far.
dr. k sat us down and talked about how only 10% of us would understand everything he wanted for us.
he talked about how we don't deserve anything and we have to fight for everything.
he talked about how we need to live up to our potential and we can't let it slip by us.
he looked every single one of us in the eyes and made us promise that we wouldn't let him down.

i rode my bike a lot this week, just thinking about everything i've seen and done over the last year.
i can barely believe where i am now and where i was this time last year.
everything just feels right.
everyone i've been talking to has said the same.
it's sad to be losing friends, in a physical sense, but i think that will figure itself out.

tonight, i had the best end to my week of greatness.
i went to see this live.
i saw old friends and new.
it was a party to say the least.
seeing people, all so happy, confirmed how amazing my week and my life really have been.

exciting things are in the works all around.
the station is on the up and up.
apss HAS to be amazing next semester.
and me?
i'm still here.

pretty exciting, i'd say.

i'm in the studio right now, playing my halloween playlist and sitting until 6am, when i get to go home.
i'm mad sick and i just got a call from someone asking for wolfmother and saying that i sound horrible on the radio because i'm so sick.
i can't imagine how terrible i look.
i mean, it's after 5 am and i've been up since 8am.

torres left for nyc last night and he's probably about to leave the ATL after a long layover.
it's going to be a long week, i think.
i'm in the studio all by myself and it's kind of weird, especially since this is the first time ever i've been here by myself for any length of time.
i better get used to this feeling.
i lie. i am used to this feeling; i just don't realize it.
i'm consciously trying to spend more time by myself this year, knowing that it's going to have to happen sooner or later.

i wonder when people will realize leaving me here alone is a bad idea.
i'm playing folly right now.
if i remember correctly, there are a series of breakdowns from here out, then some "goth" from the rhino boxset, which is exciting for me, because it's totally stuff i wouldn't normally get to play.

it looks like i have an unusually long week ahead.
school is really keeping me busy, which is depressing, but i'm getting used to feeling "productive," so it's okay.

also, i'm wearing a hat that says "von cutie" so i win.

though the past few weeks have been mentally and physically trying, i am making a conscious effort to do things the right way, even if it means cutting it off altogether.
i met a cute girl at a raw foods place at home tonight and it reminded me how easy it is to do business like a douche.
i realized this past week how important it is to just recharge and think about my mission for the year.
how do i do that?
i lay in my bed and turn torres' speakers up really loud.
i annoy the hell out of my other roommates because i only listen to hardcore.
